Amp/Speaker Matching
People often think that amps and speakers should be matched by matching the output power of the receiver to the power handling of the amp, but these numbers tell 2 different things. The power handling of the speaker just tells us how much power the speaker can handle before being damaged. It doesn’t require an amp that can supply this power, and you can still damage the speakers with an amp rated at a much lower power by driving it into clipping/distortion.
The power rating of the speaker is referring to instantaneous peak power, and the amp rating is referring to average (RMS) power.
