5-Star Review for Duncan’s Exceptional Work on My Marantz 2285B
I recently had the pleasure of working with Duncan to restore my beloved Marantz 2285B, and I couldn’t be happier with the results! From start to finish, Duncan’s professionalism, expertise, and passion for vintage audio shone through.
The level of care and attention to detail he applied to this restoration was nothing short of remarkable. He didn’t just repair it – he brought the 2285B back to life, making it sound as vibrant and rich as the day it left the factory. The warmth and clarity in the sound are simply jaw-dropping, and it’s evident that Duncan takes pride in ensuring every component is tuned to perfection.
He was also a pleasure to communicate with, explaining the process clearly and giving updates along the way. It’s rare to find someone with both the technical knowledge and a genuine love for what they do, and Duncan embodies both qualities.
If you’re looking for someone to breathe new life into your vintage audio gear, look no further. Duncan is the real deal, and I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone seeking top-tier restoration services. Thank you, Duncan – my Marantz 2285B is back home and sounding better than ever!
I wanted to thank Duncan for the excellent work he did restoring my Marantz 1180DC integrated amplifier. The amp had a myriad of issues – from channels dropping, to scratchy pots and switches to finally losing output. He did a full restore and re-cap and the difference is night and day. The amp sounds absolutely fantastic! Not only are all of the issues fixed, and the amp is dead quiet – but the sound has improved. It is ‘tighter’ and the bass in particular is refined and more defined than it was before. ‘Sloppy’ would be a good term to describe it before the restore. I couldn’t be happier with the work Duncan did. I previously had the amp serviced at other local hifi shops, but the issues were not fully addressed. This is the best my amp has ever sounded. Fully recommend Duncan and his services for this class of equipment.
I’ve known Duncan a long time, since early in his vintage restoration work. I first met him when I bought a fully restored Sansui 9090 from him. I liked his work and he has become my go to person for any audio electronics issues I might have ever since. That was over 10 years ago!
Duncan’s hand prints are all over my stereo collection and there’s good reason for that: he’s thorough, knowledgeable and genuinely has a passion for restoring equipment to it’s full functioning glory.
It started when the first stereo I ever bought – a Rotel integrated and B&W speakers from the 90s, finally started giving me trouble. I had brought them a couple of places only to have them come back no better than they were. Duncan not only fixed the problem but explained it to me and that stereo is still running my living room the same as it has since I was a teenager. Since then, he has fixed Magnepans and Rotel separates for me, he’s sold me a CD player but the crown jewel is a pair of Marantz amplifiers. A Model
3800 pre and the big 510M power which he fully cleaned and restored. They are wonderful, they look fantastic and they sound amazing. He also introduced me to Radford speakers which have brought my listening experience to a whole new level. If you are into vintage audiophile gear you need to know
Duncan’s Audio.
Many years ago, I found a true professional to repair my John Bowers Active One Loudspeakers. That truly gifted gentleman was in his 70’s, had grown up with tubes and the advent of ICs – a dying breed! I have used other highly touted Ottawa vintage HiFi repair services, but recently became disappointed by the lack of thoroughness, attention to detail, and quality of work. I was struggling to find someone to
rehabilitate my Luxman L-100 Integrated Amplifier.
I stumbled upon Duncan’s website and saw that he was repairing high-end vintage HiFi equipment. I reached out to inquire about having my L-100 serviced – cleaning the pots, switches, etc. After speaking with Duncan, I asked him to perform a deep-dive to bring the Amp back to as close to as-new operational condition as possible.
Duncan performed a complete re-cap and cleaning, fixed an intermittent output condition, and diagnosed why the volume control was so sensitive. But that was not all; – Duncan’s expertise led him to find and fix two previous repairs impacting performance, plus a factory assembly mistake with the bass and volume controls. Duncan’s knowledge and expertise are off the chart!
Upon hooking up the L-100 I was astounded by the sound. An Amp that I thought might be relegated to the closet is now driving recently purchased DM630i speakers with astonishing clarity and power. It has been a pleasure to meet Duncan, someone so young with such a passion for excellence. I will go out of my way to recommend Duncan’s work to anyone with good HiFi gear. I will not let anyone else
touch mine.
